Experimental pop star and partner to Elon Musk, Grimes, has appeared in the trailer for a new avatar talent show ‘Alter Ego.’ She will act as one of the competition’s judges alongside Alanis Morissette and will.i.am.
The new show was announced back in July and has been described as “the world’s first avatar singing competition series”. It will be based around the novel premise that contestants will take to the stage in the form of their “dream avatars”, by utilising motion capture technology.
In a recent press release, the president of Fox’s alternative entertainment and specials department, Rob Wade, said: “Alter Ego merges talent and technology to revolutionise the singing competition show in only a way Fox can do.” Adding, “We are so excited to bring the fantastic will.i.am, Alanis, Grimes, Nick and Rocsi together as they search for the next big singing star, allowing incredible vocalists a chance to realise their dreams and perform like never before.”
The new show follows another notorious TV appearance in which Grimes appeared in an episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by her partner Elon Musk. Earlier in the year, she’d joined surrealist comedian, Eric Andre, on his show for a “Grimes and Punishment” sketch in which the singer was subjected to “torture” by a duo dressed in gimp suits.
Grimes also recently took to TikTok in order to defend her and her boyfriend, Elon Musk. She wrote: “Stop harassing me on this app over fake news and I am not my bf’s spokesperson.”
Elsewhere, Grimes has revealed that she won’t be featured on Lady Gaga’s new remix album, Dawn of Chromatica, following a case of “sibling rivalry” between herself and executive producer BloodPop. Meanwhile, Alanis Morissette has embarked on her rescheduled tour of the US to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her iconic album Jagged Little Pill.
