Watch Gorillaz make their ‘Saturday Night Live’ debut with ‘The Moon Cave’ and ‘Clint Eastwood’

To celebrate the release of their latest album, The Mountain, Gorillaz have made their Saturday Night Live debut, playing ‘Clint Eastwood’ and ‘The Moon Cave’.

On March 7th, the iconic band took to the stage on SNL for the very first time, a week after the release of their ninth studio album.

The show was hosted by The Notebook actor Ryan Gosling, who beamed through his fourth stint on the late-night show.

Damon Albarn and co threw it back with their 2001 debut single ‘Clint Eastwood’, with an appearance from Del the Funky Homosapien.

Following this, they returned with the new tune, ‘The Moon Cave’, which featured collaborators Asha Puthli, Black Thought, and Anoushka Shankar.

The new record is overflowing with collaborators, including the likes of Sparks, Idles, Gruff Rhys, Anoushka Shankar, and Johnny Marr.

Elsewhere on the show, global popstar Harry Styles crashed Gosling’s introductory monologue ahead of his hosting duties next week. The two fought for the attention of the crowd, with Gosling becoming increasingly frustrated with Styles’ continued appearance.

Later this year, the Britpop band will act as the inaugural headliner of a brand new European festival, alongside The Cure. The first-ever edition of PhillGood festival is being launched in Bulgaria from July 17th to 19th.

In addition to this, the band will tour the UK and Ireland in March, as well as South and Central America in November.

In a two-and-a-half-star review of The Mountain, Far Out observed of the project, “Like any good mixtape, this is a lengthy project, but like any bad album, it’s a sprawling mess that goes on too long and explores one too many tangents. Essentially, there are three different records in here that would have all made for enjoyable listens had they been separated properly. It’s a bad outfit made up of good clothes.”
