Watch Charli XCX question ‘Brat’ in meta new ‘The Moment’ trailer
Charli XCX has released a new trailer for her upcoming mockumentary, The Moment, which sees her grapple with the longevity of Brat summer.
Alongside Charli, the mockumentary stars recent Pillion actor Alexander Skarsgård, I Love LA actor Rachel Sennott, Hailey Benton Gates, Jamie Demetriou, Kate Berlant, and Rosanna Arquette, as well as a cameo from Kylie Jenner.
In the new trailer, the ‘Sympathy is a Knife’ singer can be seen questioning the Brat phenomenon, which catapulted her to new levels of fame after its release in 2024. “Don’t you think the whole ‘keep having a Brat summer thing’ is a bit cringe?” the star asked in the trailer.
A montage of clips from her fictional backstage antics follows, including one comedic scene when she is placed inside a gigantic, sparkly green lighter, which is set on fire as she yells from the inside.
Additionally, one of her backstage crew is seen questioning earnestly, “How do we keep this Brat thing going?”
The clip includes a Kylie Jenner cameo, too. She tells the Essex musician, “The second people are getting sick of you, that’s when you have to go even harder.”
Skarsgård is an integral feature of the trailer: his character struggles with the idea of Brat, unsure how to market her music “without offending anyone”, and questioning if she is singing “literally or metaphorically” about cocaine.
Later, Charli snaps while smoking a cigarette in a taxi. She shares, “Everybody is so desperate for me to be fucking innovative all the time and fucking cool. Everybody is like, ‘What do you want?’ Well, I don’t fucking know what I fucking want!”
The film will enjoy its first screening at the Sundance Festival in Utah in 2026. Her other upcoming projects include a dark comedy titled The Gallerist and an erotic thriller, I Want Your Sex, from director Gregg Araki.
