Violet Grohl announces debut album, ‘Be Sweet To Me’, with new single ‘595’
Violet Grohl has announced her debut album, Be Sweet To Me, set for release on May 29th, with the single ‘595’.
At the beginning of the year, it was announced that the indie-rock musician had signed to Republic Records through her own imprint, Auroura Records.
At that time, she released two singles, ‘Thum’ and ‘Applefish’, to celebrate the collaboration, the former being the album opener, as well as the first track written for the project.
Dave Grohl’s daughter has continued to release new music, now sharing the second track from her debut album, which will be titled Be Sweet To Me.
The track, which is sultry, moody and dark, was inspired by a vintage t-shirt advertising a phone sex line. In the chorus, Violet sings seductively, “I’ll be your 1-900-G spot, baby, 595 I’m on the line, You won’t last.”
In the music video, which was directed by Nikki Milan Houston, the star sits broodingly in the back of a taxi and haunts those hoping for a lift with her evil energy.
The forthcoming album was recorded from late 2024 into early 2025 with producer Justin Raisen, who has worked with the likes of Kim Gordon, Yves Tumor, and Charli XCX.
The 19-year-old singer has revealed that alternative music from the late 1980s and early ’90s is a huge influence on the album, from the likes of Cocteau Twins, PJ Harvey, Pixies, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains. “I’ve listened to that stuff since I was a kid,” she revealed.
Her famous father and Foo Fighters frontman has gushed about the album previously, hinting at the direction of the genre, explaining that some songs remind him of “The Sundays or Cocteau Twins and things like that. Then there’s like super hard, really heavy rock stuff.”
Along with her recorded music, the singer-songwriter is set to perform at Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta.
