Vampire Weekend announce their fifth album is “done”
The wait for the next Vampire Weekend release is finally almost over as the indie band confirm their new album is “done”.
It’s been a while since the world received new Vampire Weekend music. Their last album, Father Of The Bride was in 2019, and their most recent release came in 2021, with the EP 40:42. However, a new album is now seemingly only around the corner and looks to be released next year.
Booming to success in 2008, following the release of their debut album, tracks like ‘A-Punk’ and ‘Oxford Comma’ were critical for carving out their sound. Becoming a defining band of the 2010s and onwards, Vampire Weekend remain a hugely popular act.
Having recently announced a series of live album vinyl-only releases, the band have been sending out newsletters with each new LP. In the first newsletter, they teased that their next project was “close to done.” But in the latest, on December 14th, bassist Chris Baio told fans, “LP5 IS DONE.”
There is no further information on the album’s sound, style or possible release date. The most the world has heard about the upcoming album came when Baio joked about hosting the “first ever Vampire Weekend Corporate Retreat”. The band all took to the coast of Southern Oregon to visit Baio and seemingly do some writing or recording.
“It was a dream to show my guys around a region of the country I have fallen in love with over the past few years,” Baio wrote of the trip. “We took a buggy tour of the famous Oregon sand dunes (shout out to Sandland Adventure!), ate great food, explored rugged beaches, and most importantly, discussed all our plans for 2024. And let me tell ya, folks, there are a lot of em.”
2024 is going to be a year to remember for Vampire Weekend as they inch closer to the release date of their fifth album. They have already been announced for Barcelona’s Primavera Sound and Kilby’s Block Party, and there are likely many more festival dates on the horizon, plus a possible headline tour.
