Travis Kelce says it was a “dream come true” to work with Adam Sandler on ‘Happy Gilmore 2’
NFL star Travis Kelce has revealed it was a “dream come true” for him to appear on-screen with Adam Sandler in the hotly-anticipated Netflix sequel Happy Gilmore 2.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end recently began transitioning into acting with a supporting role on FX’s Grotesquerie, but his appearance in Happy Gilmore 2 will be his first film role. Kelce is expected to cameo in the golf comedy alongside famous faces like Eminem, pro-wrestlers Becky Lynch and Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and music superstar Bad Bunny.
The film is the long-awaited sequel to one of Sandler’s breakthrough roles from 1996. In that film, Sandler played Happy, a failed ice hockey player who discovered his uncontrollable rage translated into a talent for golf. He uses it to participate in golf tournaments to earn enough money to stop the bank from foreclosing on his grandmother’s house but soon comes up against his nemesis, Shooter McGavin.
When Kelce appeared on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, the excited star beamed, “That was a dream come true. I thought SNL was going to be the peak of my acting and showman or entertainment career. Working with Happy Gilmore himself – the Sandman – and Happy Productions, it was off the chain.”
Kelce added, “They’re so professional and yet so fun to work with. I felt like I was working with, like, the Andy Reid of the acting world.”
He then assured fans that Sandler “is every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen. That was a dream come true. That was awesome.”
For anyone worrying that Kelce’s role would be a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it affair, he insisted that he’s actually in “a few scenes” and that director Kyle Newacheck gave him “a pretty hefty load.”
Unfortunately, no official release date has been announced for Happy Gilmore 2 as of yet.
