Rapper Tory Lanez reportedly stabbed in prison
Daystar Peterson, better known to the world as rapper Tory Lanez, has reportedly been stabbed by another inmate at the California Correctional Institution. The rapper is serving a ten-year sentence behind bars for the shooting of fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion back in 2020.
At the time of writing, the motive and severity of the stabbing are unknown. However, reports suggest that Lanez was stabbed while out in the prison yard and has subsequently been transferred to a nearby civilian hospital in Bakersfield, California. His current condition is unknown, and the identity of the attacker has not yet been determined.
Reports of the stabbing originated from TMZ, who claim the news has been confirmed by multiple sources, including a member of law enforcement. In recent weeks, the rapper has been sharing images and social media posts from behind bars, including posts teasing a new album release in the near future.
Lanez was sentenced to ten years in prison back in 2023, on counts of assault with a semiautomatic handgun, having a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and gross negligence in discharging his firearm, following the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
The pair had attended a party together in Los Angeles on July 12, 2020, which resulted in an argument between Stallion and Lanez. During this argument, Lanez shot the rapper in the foot, while alledgely telling her to “Dance, bitch”. After Stallion revealed that Lanez had shot her on social media, a highly publicised spat ensued for months.
In October 2020, after Lanez had been formally charged for the incident, Stallion wrote an op-ed for The New York Times which stated, “Black women are still constantly disrespected and disregarded in so many areas of life. I was recently the victim of an act of violence by a man. After a party, I was shot twice as I walked away from him. We were not in a relationship.”
Lanez was found guilty of shooting Stallion by a jury trail in 2022, and was handed a ten-year sentence in 2023. Despite this, Lanez has released four studio albums since the shooting. The most recent album, Peterson, was recorded entirely behind bars, with the help of AI technology.
