Megan Thee Stallion wins legal round in Tory Lanez related lawsuit

In October 2024, American rapper Megan Thee Stallion filed a lawsuit against Milagro Gramz, a Tory Lanez supporter and YouTuber. Megan Thee Stallion accused Gramz of “cyberstalking, intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy”. She has won the first legal round and can continue with the case.

A Florida judge has ruled that Megan Thee Stallion (whose real name is Megan Pete) has made a “compelling case” against Gramz (whose real name is Milagro Elizabeth Cooper). According to the judge, the YouTuber acted with a “reckless disregard for the truth” in posts about the rapper. Chief Judge Cecilia Altonaga also said that Cooper’s posts “depict a campaign, not journalism”.

Cooper was also accused of allegedly sharing a link to an AI-generated deepfake porn video of Pete. Although she is not under fire for the creation of the video, Pete’s lawyers claimed that she had “wilfully and maliciously promoted” the video by encouraging her followers to engage with it.

“Plaintiff’s claims extend far beyond mere negligence,” continued the judge. “They paint a picture of an intentional campaign to destroy her reputation. That is more than enough to satisfy the pleading standard.”

Cooper is also accused of spreading lies about her Tory Lanez case. In 2020, Lanez was found guilty of shooting Pete in the foot at a pool party, after becoming enraged over remarks she made. During this time, Lanez’s defence team attempted to disparage Pete’s public image by revealing intimate personal details. Cooper is accused of spreading misinformation, questioning whether Pete was really shot at all.

In December, Pete’s attorneys claimed to have obtained Lanez’s prison calls via subpoena. They intend to use these as proof that Lanez continued to orchestrate a harassment campaign against Pete. Pete also has a five-year restraining order against Lanez as she remains fearful of his aggression towards her, despite his 10-year prison sentence.
