Tory Lanez “couldn’t breathe” after prison stabbing

The father of rapper Tory Lanez has spoken at length about his son’s injuries, providing a positive health update after he was stabbed 14 times in prison earlier this week.

The attack took place on May 12th, during which Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, was stabbed 14 times, including seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face.

In a social media post on Lanez’s account, an update was shared on his condition following the incident, which reads: “Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own.”

It continued: “Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

His father, Sonstar Peterson, told reporters at a press conference on May 14th: “All he knows is that he couldn’t breathe. He could hardly speak. Upon which the officer turned around and looked at him and said, ‘No, we got to take him. He has to be airlifted’.”

“The report from the hospital is that he is doing remarkably well,” Peterson continued before adding that his son is “recovering remarkably” and they’ve removed the tubes from his lungs.

The suspect is fellow inmate 42-year-old Santino Casio, who is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder. He has since been placed in restricted housing while an investigation is ongoing. The motivation for the stabbing remains unclear.

Lanez is currently serving a ten-year sentence at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020. He was convicted of three felonies in light of the incident in 2022, for which he is currently serving his prison sentence, although he will be eligible for parole in 2029.
