Tom Waits has been cast in the Coen Brothers’ new film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
Oscar-winning directors Joel and Ethan Coen will be targeting awards season with their new feature which was originally billed as an anthology series.
Set for a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs was billed as a six-part chaptered anthology by Netflix Originals but has now emerged as a 132-minute feature film which will also star Tom Waits.
“We’ve always loved anthology movies, especially those films made in Italy in the Sixties which set side-by-side the work of different directors on a common theme,” the Coens said in a statement. “Having written an anthology of Western stories we attempted to do the same, hoping to enlist the best directors working today. It was our great fortune that they both agreed to participate.”
Tim Blake Nelson will play Scruggs as names like Zoe Kazan and Liam Neeson join Waits on the cast.
