Tom Morello cancels more European dates after mother hospitalised

Tom Morello has cancelled more European dates on his solo summer tour, revealing that his 102-year-old mother, Mary, has been re-hospitalised and he is heading home to look after her.

The Rage Against The Machine guitarist originally postponed two shows back on June 16th, at London’s Electric Brixton and the Bataclan in Paris. At the time, he shared that “a family emergency” meant he had to postpone these shows.

Now, Morello has cancelled his appearance at Tons Of Rock Festival in Oslo, slated originally for June 26th, as well as his June 27th appearance at BBK Music Legends Festival in Bilbao.

Morello shared the unfortunate news on Instagram, in a statement which began, “Dear friends, fans and comrades, my dear mom, Mary Morello, is back in the hospital, and I’m headed home to help look after her.”

He added, “Rocking the UK & Europe with you all this summer has been incredible, and I can’t wait to be back with you and continue this movement that we started. With much love, unity and power.”

As replacements go, Tons Of Rock have now confirmed that The Hellacopters will replace Morello, while Beat, consisting of Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Steve Vai, and Danny Carey, will play for a full 120 minutes to make up for Morello’s absence.

Since this latest update, refunds are now available for the London and Paris shows, which Morello originally rearranged for June 29th and 30th.

Addressing the unfortunate situation last week, he wrote via social media, “I am sorry I had to miss a few shows due to my mom’s health. The incredibly resilient, indefatigable Mary Morello at 102 is now feeling somewhat better and has ordered me back into the fray, charging me with rocking you and fighting fascism six strings at a time.”

Morello returned for a show at Pinkpop in the Netherlands last weekend, following up with shows in Nijmegen and at Copenhell in Denmark before the latest slew of cancellations.
