Tom Morello backs Bruce Springsteen amid Donald Trump feud: “Fuck that guy”

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello is the latest high-profile musician to express support for Bruce Springsteen amid his feud with President Donald Trump.

Morello has made several guest appearances on stage with Springsteen over the decades and also briefly became an honorary member of the E-Street Band in 2013 on the Australian leg, as Steven Van Zandt was unable to make the set of shows.

During a performance at Boston Calling on May 25th, Morello flew his colours to the mast of Springsteen with an impassioned speech. He also had a “Fuck Trump” backdrop behind him during the set and also condemned ICE’s deportation scheme.

Morello told those in attendance: “Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he’s been about truth, justice, democracy, equality.”

The guitarist then suggested a reason why he believes that Trump is furious with Springsteen’s recent comments, “And Trump is mad at him because Bruce draws a bigger audience. Fuck that guy!”

Throughout his ongoing European tour, which began on May 14th, Springsteen has consistently attacked Trump at every show so far, despite receiving threats from the president on social media.

After he initially condemned the US administration in Manchester, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he’s not a talented guy — Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK”.

Several days later, after Springsteen criticised him again at another Manchester concert, Trump announced plans to launch a “major investigation” into the singer’s support of the Democratic Party at the last election. Springsteen performed at two rallies in swing states last October.

However, Springsteen has remained committed to spreading his political message at shows. At his most recent concert at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille, he told those at the stadium: “I’ve always tried to be a good ambassador for America, I’ve spent my life singing about where we have succeeded and where we’ve come short in living up to our civic ideals and our dreams. Things are happening right now that are altering the very nature of our country’s democracy and they’re simply too important to ignore.”

Springsteen is set to perform again at the home of LOSC Lille on May 27th as his European tour continues.
