Tom Holland says Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is “unlike anything we’ve ever seen”

Tom Holland has opened up about his experience working with Christopher Nolan on the upcoming epic, The Odyssey.

The project shot for for several months in European locations such as Greece, Sicily and Monaco during the early summer. Now that filming has wrapped on The Odyssey, a teaser trailer was released earlier this month exclusively in cinemas.

In the short video, a narrator reads, “Darkness. Zeus’s law smashed to pieces. I’m without a king since my master died. He knew it was an unwinnable war. And then, somehow, he won it.”

The teaser shows Holland as Odysseus’s son Telemachus, conversing with an unknown character, played by Jon Bernthal. The clip then cuts to footage of a man that appears to be Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, floating on driftwood in the middle of the sea.

While Holland has to remain somewhat tight-lipped about the plot, in a new interview with GQ Sports, he shared of working on the movie: “It was amazing. The job of a lifetime, without a doubt. The best experience I’ve had on the film set. Incredible. It was exciting. It was different. And I think the movie is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.”

The English actor continued: “Working with Chris, getting to know him and Emma [Thomas] was absolutely fantastic. I’ve never seen someone that can work the way that they do, and there is a reason why they’re the best in the business for sure.”

It was also an incredibly educational experience for Holland, who said of learning from Nolan and Thomas, “To get a front row seat to that and to be a part of the process and to collaborate with a true master of his craft and learn from him was the best experience I’ve ever had.”

The all-star cast includes Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, John Leguizamo, Benny Safdie and Elliot Page. Unsurprisingly, Holland was full of awe for his co-stars, “Matt Damon has always been a hero of mine, Anne Hathaway has always been a hero of mine. So to share scenes with them, to learn from them, to become friends with them, I couldn’t have asked for a better job.”

The Odyssey is set for release on July 17th, 2026.
