Tom Hardy is hoping for ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie appearance
With a Peaky Blinders movie in the works as a film adaptation of the hit TV show, Tom Hardy has said he’s hoping to reprise his role as Alfie Solomons, the leader of a Camden Town-based gang.
Cillian Murphy confirmed that he would be returning to the role of Tommy Shelby two years after the series wrapped its final season. The show’s creator, Stephen Knight, had hinted for a while that the next instalment of the story would come in the form of a feature film, but now it’s confirmed.
Murphy is on board as he told Deadline, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.”
Knight shared his excitement about the project too as he told Deadline, “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
Director Tom Harper echoed that sentiment as he said, “‘Peaky’ has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix”. Now Tom Hardy is hoping to rejoin the family, too.
Hardy joined the series for its second season and then stayed as a recurring character until its final, sixth season. When it comes to the film, the actor is hopeful that his character Alfie Solomons will make a comeback. “One hundred per cent, Alfie will definitely make an appearance, but I don’t know when,” Hardy recently told Sky News, appearing to confirm his involvement. But then he added, “I don’t even know if he will, that’s just me punting.”
However, the cast will soon become clear as the film is set to start shooting soon. Steven Knight said at a recent premiere, “We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.” So it’s likely that the full cast will be spotted on set, with Tom Hardy hoping to be amongst them.
A release date for the project has yet to be announced, but Netflix has also confirmed the news. “Thomas Shelby returns. A Peaky Blinders film starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix,” they wrote on social media, alongside a photo of the movie’s script. With more news and teasers to come, the project that has been teased for a long time is finally about to get underway.
