Tilda Swinton to take a step back from acting for a while
Tilda Swinton has recently revealed that she plans to take a break from acting, reflecting on her need to “recalibrate”. The British actor is known for her roles in recent films like The End, The Room Next Door and The Killer, as well as starring in Memoria, The Eternal Daughter and The French Dispatch.
She is most well known for her work in arthouse and independent films, collaborating with directors like Wes Anderson, Lynne Ramsay, Joanna Hogg and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
However, in a recent interview with The Guardian, she reflected on her current approach to her career and her need to take a break from her craft. “I’m not stepping away from cinema, I’m just stepping away from certain aspects of cinema”.
She explained how she needed this time to consider what kinds of projects she wants to do next, saying, “You really can’t do that when you’re flying around the world, tied to a big carbon footprint.”
She continued: “So I’m happy to say I won’t be travelling for months. I’m not shooting another film this year. I’ve been in a spin cycle for much too long. And here’s the other thing. On the most prosaic level, I’m going to be sleeping in my own bed again. I’ll have a sky and an ocean and human beings around me. It’s not a bunker, it’s home.”
Swinton has recently been promoting her latest film The End, starring alongside Michael Shannon, George MacKay and Moses Ingram. The film was directed by Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer, who is most known for his 2012 film The Act of Killing.
The film will be released on March 28th, and follows a family living in an underground bunker after a nuclear disaster.
