A marriage made in hell: Ticketmaster and ChatGPT join forces for new app
Ticketmaster and ChatGPT have teamed up to create a new app that allows fans to search for events and explore ticket options directly through the OpenAI chatbot.
Users of ChatGPT can connect their Ticketmaster account through the app registry. From there, they can ask questions about any event hosted on the ticket-selling platform.
Ready buyers will eventually be sent to Ticketmaster’s marketplace to complete the transaction.
Ticketmaster celebrated the new partnership in a statement that explained, “Fan behavior is evolving. Discovery is no longer limited to search engines or social platforms, as more fans turn to AI platforms like ChatGPT to find events, compare options, and make decisions in real time.”
The statement added, “Ticketmaster is helping shape this shift with our app in ChatGPT, ensuring your events are discoverable in these emerging spaces and piloting new ways to reach fans at the moment decisions are made.”
This isn’t the first musical partnership to be hosted on ChatGPT, as Ticketmaster joins SeatGeek in hosting their service to 900 million users. Additionally, Apple Music’s Shazam tool allows users to “Shazam” songs directly to ChatGPT.
Of course, Ticketmaster will also introduce sponsored placements within ChatGPT, speaking to the increasing reality in the industry that music discovery hinges on AI, marketing, and advertising, not just talent, experience, and merit.
In the same way, Spotify and Apple Music have integrated AI-driven discovery features on their platforms.
Crucially, AI data centers use approximately 500 million gallons of water daily to cool generators and generate electricity for digital processing. The new partnership will only add to this statistic.
This baffling news adds to the wave of unfavourable press the platform has received; late last year, Brit Award-winning singer Olivia Dean deemed the seller “disgusting” after resale ticket prices to her 2026 North American tour soared.
Additionally, as of last November, the case against Ticketmaster, which centres on Ticketmaster’s sale of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour tickets in 2022, has moved forward to evidence discovery.
