Olivia Dean slams “disgusting” Ticketmaster, Live Nation and AEG over resale prices
Olivia Dean has criticised Ticketmaster, Live Nation, and AEG in response to the “vile” resale ticket prices for her upcoming US tour.
Next year, the singer-songwriter is set to embark on a US tour across July and August. On November 21st, additional tickets to the shows went on sale, but were quickly found only as resale on some sites.
The ‘Dive’ singer took to her Instagram story to call out all three organisations implicit in increasing the prices. She wrote, “Ticketmaster], [Live Nation], [AEG]: You are providing a disgusting service.”
Dean added, “The prices at which you’re allowing tickets to be re-sold is vile and completely against our wishes.”
She continued, “Live music should be affordable and accessible, and we need to find a new way of making that possible. BE BETTER.”
Soon thereafter, she posted another story, which began, “I’m sorry that there seems to be an issue with ticket re-selling and pricing. My team are currently looking into it.”
Speaking honestly, she added, “It is extremely frustrating as the last thing I want is for anyone to be scammed or overcharged for our show. Please be wary buying tickets in the comment sections as it is most likely a scam.”
Ticketmaster were quick to defend their opinion on X, writing, “We support artists’ ability to set the terms of how their tickets are sold and resold. We will cap resale prices on our site at face value and hope other resale sites will follow.”
This criticism comes soon after the UK government announced they would be making it illegal to resell tickets for live music, sports, comedy and theatre events above the original cost. This is set to save fans £112million per year
Later this year, Dean, who recently released her new single ‘Man I Need’, will be on support duties again for Sabrina Carpenter, playing iconic arenas across the United States, including five nights at Madison Square Garden in New York.
