Ticketless Oasis fans ignore fencing to gather at ‘Gallagher Hill’ at Heaton Park
At the third of five humungous homecoming shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park, Oasis fans ignored the fencing erected by the council to listen to the Britpop brothers’ comeback performance.
At Heaton Park, 70,000 fans watched as Oasis tore through old classics, B-sides and a sprinkle of that sly humour that has become inextricable from their artistry. At the first two shows, many watched from afar in an area of the park labelled ‘Gallagher Hill’ by fans.
After viral footage depicted thousands enjoying the free show on July 12th, Manchester City Council erected a huge green fence to prevent those from being able to view the stage from ‘Gallagher Hill‘.
Despite this, plenty more social media videos show Oasis fans, old and young, coming together to enjoy the sound of the reunion show. Other fans in the comment have expressed concerns about the two next Heaton Park shows, on July 19th and July 20th. As these fall on a weekend, more fans will likely be available to attempt to hear the monumental event first-hand.
Additionally, in other social media videos, fans can be seen climbing over the fence to make their way into the main arena, however, it’s unclear whether they successfully managed to watch the show at Heaton Park.
Safety concerns rise as 12 people were arrested after the latest show. It comes after nine people were arrested at Heaton Park during the second concert, adding to the six arrests made the night before on July 11th. Five men and three women were arrested in three separate incidents on suspicion of fraud after attempting to access the show through fake accreditation. A man was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting a member of security staff.
Halfway through their fifth tour show, Noel gave a shout-out to the homecoming crowd and said, “Nobody’s got fans like this.” Little did he know that thousands more had congregated in the park nearby to listen to the sound leak through the tall fencing.
Oasis have performed a largely consistent setlist, that has raced through tracks like ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, ‘Fade Away’ and ‘Supersonic’, ending with a four-song encore that barrels through tracks ‘The Masterplan’, ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, ‘Wonderwall’ and, finally, ‘Champagne Supernova’.
