Thom Yorke announces new joint album with Mark Pritchard

Thom Yorke has announced a new joint album with electronic producer Mark Pritchard, Tall Tales. This follows a string of collaborations between the pair in recent years, including the recent tune ‘Back in the Game’.

Alongside the announcement that the album will be released on May 9th, Yorke and Pritchard also shared a new song, ‘This Conversation is Missing Your Voice,’ giving a glimpse into the unique electronic rock blend that can be expected from the upcoming record.

Tall Tales, set to be released by Warp Records, promises to boast “Pritchard’s mastery of archaic machines unearthed in synthesizer archives” combined with Yorke’s “haunting and expansive vocal performance, delving into dark, introspective storytelling.”

This is not the pair’s first foray into collaborative efforts with one another, coming off the back of their song ‘Beautiful People’ which featured on Pritchard’s 2016 album Under the Sun, and the producer’s previous remixes of Radiohead’s ‘Bloom’ in 2011.

Despite this seemingly being a two-man affair, notes on the new album also credit visual artist Jonathan Zawada as being instrumental to the project, creating videos for the first two singles that will later form the basis of a feature film, details of which will be announced in due course.

With regard to the duo’s first output from this new era, Far Out said that ‘Back in the Game’ represented the fact that: “While electronic music and Thom Yorke’s left-field rock sound wouldn’t be an obvious fit, the two figures are true luminaries of the 1990s music scene.”

Tall Tales is just the latest in a long line of side projects for Radiohead frontman Yorke since the release of the band’s last album, A Moon Shaped Pool, in 2016. Apart from Pritchard, he has also worked with his band The Smile, as well as on solo material.
