The Who frontman Roger Daltrey to step down as curator of Royal Albert Hall’s Teenage Cancer Trust concerts
Roger Daltrey, co-founder and lead singer of The Who, is stepping down as the Curator of Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) concerts held at the Royal Albert Hall.
The announcement of Daltrey’s departure as curator comes as the lineup for the 2024 show is announced, which boasts a bill including Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Squeeze, Blossoms, Young Fathers, Paul Weller, Robert Plant, Pete Townsend, Eddie Vedder, and The Chemical Brothers.
Taking place from March 18th, 2024, this year’s series of events will celebrate Daltrey’s work as founder and curator, whose involvement will continue as the charity’s honorary patron.
Daltrey has been the driving force behind the flagship shows since its opening in 2000, which has seen a host of stars grace the stage, including Paul McCartney, Oasis, Kasabian, The Cure, Florence + The Machine, and others.
The event raises money for TCT, which provides care and support for young people who have been diagnosed with cancer. As a result of Daltrey stepping down, the organisation stated it will be working with a series of guest curators from 2025 onwards.
Daltrey said: “The £32 million raised from these concerts has been the foundation for the 28 specialised units within the NHS, as well as specialist nurses and youth workers to be there for a young person when cancer has turned their world upside down.”
Gallagher, who performed at the first event, said “it is a charity very close to my heart,” adding that he will “be there en masse.”
Kate Collins, chief executive of TCT, said: “Quite simply, we would not be the charity we are without Roger and these shows and – more importantly than that – thousands of young people with cancer in the UK would not have had the specialist support and care they urgently need.”
Tickets for the event go on sale at 9am on January 12th, 2024.
