The Smiths’ Mike Joyce joins Pete Doherty’s band for new tour

Pete Doherty has revealed that The Smiths drummer Mike Joyce will perform with him on a number of dates this year.

In May, Doherty is set to release his new solo album, Felt Better Alive, through his own record label Strap Originals. To celebrate the new record’s arrival into the world, The Libertines founder will be heading out on the road with Joyce accompanying him for most of the shows.

The tour begins in Sint Niklass on April 25th. They will then visit Paris, Leuven, Liege, Amsterdam, Cologne, Berlin, Leipzig, Munich, and Brussels. After the conclusion of the first run, Doherty will arrive back in the UK for a series of in-store and out-store dates without Joyce.

However, Joyce will be performing with Doherty at a series of festivals this summer including Brighton’s Great Escape, Lazydays Festival in Southend and In It Together in Port Talbot.

Additionally, Doherty has served up the latest single from Felt Better Alive, ‘The Day the Baron Died’. He says of the track: “I always thought it was a weird jazz number, with a silly, catchy little melody. It’s a kind of homage to [John Lennon’s] ‘Instant Karma’, not the lyrics but the weird off time drum fill in the chorus. And I’m not gonna explain what the song’s about because I’m working on a follow up!”

Doherty is still touring with The Libertines, who released their chart-topping album All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade in 2024. They have a huge outdoor show planned for Gunnersbury Park in London, as well as shows in Halifax, Margate, Mexico, Australia and their return to Glastonbury Festival in June.

Felt Better Alive is set for release on May 16th.
