The Smashing Pumpkins are publicly looking for a new guitarist

The Chicago alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins is actively seeking a new guitarist. With seemingly no internal contacts to lean on, the iconic band has opened the request to the public in a social media post.

“The Smashing Pumpkins are in search of an additional guitarist,” reads the message, which includes the email address [email protected], where applicants can send résumés and other related materials. “The application process is open to anyone who may be interested.”

The public search comes following the departure of former guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who left The Smashing Pumpkins last October after 15 years of playing with the group.

“Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I’ve decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path,” Schroeder said in a press statement at the time.

“I wish the band all the success in the future. I will be watching and listening,” he added.

In a joint statement, the remaining band members, Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha, wrote, “We thank Jeff for his ceaseless dedication to the band and our great fans. Words can not express our gratitude and appreciation for the friend he is and being there for SP in the good times and the tough times, too.”

This summer, The Smashing Pumpkins will return to the stage to support Green Day on their Saviours Tour across North America.
