The scrapped TV series Margot Robbie would love to resurrect: “I’ll see what I can do”

If there’s anyone who can whip the internet into a global frenzy, it’s Margot Robbie. The Australian actor and producer seemingly has the entire film industry on strings as she pulls together some of the most highly anticipated projects of the decade.

From her early involvement in the Barbie movie, in which she purchased the rights to make the film and immediately brought in Greta Gerwig to helm the story, to her recent championing of an all-girl remake of Pirates of the Caribbean, there is no story too outlandish for the actor, bringing beloved characters to life that have only ever existed in our minds.

Through the creation of her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, Robbie now has a monopoly over the film industry as one of the biggest studios in Hollywood, with a small team of people who are quietly putting together a huge slate of projects. Whether it be a live-action Sims movie, Saltburn or her controversial role in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights, there is no denying that Robbie has the power to do just about anything she wants, which might be music to the ears of fans of one popular book series that she is apparently eyeing to produce.

BookTok has become a huge phenomenon since the dawn of the internet, with avid readers now sharing everything they read on social media and encouraging others to get lost in a good book. For a while, book sales were declining, and Waterstones was on the brink of going bust, but the internet seems to have done one good thing for physical media by reinvigorating our collective love of reading.

This is something not lost on her, with the actor anointing herself a huge fan of one particular book series. A Court of Thorns and Roses might just be the biggest romance fantasy series of our time, with a massive cult following that has been obsessing over the idea of an onscreen adaptation since its release.

However, this may no longer be a dream and a very tangible possibility, with Robbie being spotted having coffee with the author of the series, Sarah J Maas. After being asked about her meeting with the writer, she said, “I’m beyond obsessed. She’s the coolest. You know she’s in her 30s? She’s also a genius”.

The actor was somewhat cryptic about whether or not the story would be brought to the big screen, but when asked about her potential involvement in an adaptation, Robbie said, “We all need that—the world needs that. I’ll see what I can do”.

Maybe it isn’t a stretch to say that this could be a possibility, but knowing how booked and busy Robbie is, maybe it will be a little while before anything concrete is decided. The series was recently picked up by Hulu but scrapped shortly after in February, putting the fate of the series on the line and the rights up for grabs, which could just be the perfect opportunity for LuckyChap.
