The Prodigy pay tribute to first manager Ziggy Chowdry after death
The Prodigy have paid tribute to Ziggy Chowdry, their first-ever manager, after he passed away last week.
The pioneering English electronic band took to their social media to honour Chowdry, who was their manager in 1991.
Posting a photograph of their late friend, in which he can be seen pulling a tongue at the camera, they wrote on Facebook, “RIP Ziggy.”
They added, “He was our first manager back in 91 and got us our first gig in the 4 Aces, Labyrinth, Dalston.”
Taking to describing his character, they deemed their late friend “a force of nature,” before signing off, “Sad news. Rest in peace Zig.”
Chowdry reportedly passed away on February 26th, three days before their social media post was uploaded.
True to their reminiscing, The Prodigy’s first show was in February 1991 at Labrynth in Dalston, East London. The space is now known as The Four Aces.
At the time, Chowdry was working as a local promoter; he connected with the band and subsequently became their first manager. Later that year, they gained prominence in the industry with the early singles ‘Everybody In The Place’ and ‘Charly’.
Looking ahead, the Prodigy are billed for four huge outdoor shows this summer in Dublin, Milton Keynes, Edinburgh, and Manchester.
Additionally, they will embark on a 12-date UK and Ireland sold-out tour set to take place in April and May. The run of dates will begin at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow and is set to visit Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Leeds, Belfast, and Dublin. They will also headline two nights at London’s OVO Wembley Arena.
They are also expected to be releasing new music at some point this year, though they recently bemoaned the impact of social media on the industry, with frontman Liam Howlett admitting now that “there seems to be less time and patience now for artists to develop.”
