The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde covers Bob Dylan’s ‘Standing in the Doorway’
The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde and James Walbourne have released their latest collaboration from their ‘Dylan Lockdown Series’ — this time covering ‘Standing In The Doorway’ taken from the 1997 Bob Dylan record Time Out Of Mind.
Hynde’s vocals shine on this rendition of the cult favourite, with The Pretenders choosing not to mess around too much with the original arrangement of the track and instead keep it largely the same as Dylan’s original version.
The Pretenders are gearing up to release their new record Hate For Sale which was produced by Stephen Street who has famously worked with the likes of Blur, The Smiths and Babyshambles. The album was originally due to be released on May 1st. However, this was inevitably delayed until July 17th due to the ongoing global situation.
The upcoming record also marks the first songwriting collaboration between Chrissie Hynde and guitarist James Walbourne. In a statement, Hynde said: “I wanted to write with [Walbourne] since day one. James is especially sought after and has recorded with Jerry Lee Lewis, Dave Gahan, and The Rails, to name but a few.”
The new record acts as the follow-up to 2016’s Alone which was the first bit of new material from the American-English since 2008’s Break Up The Concrete.
Last year, the Chrissie Hynde fronted group supported Fleetwood Mac on their June 2019 UK stadium tour which included two appearances at the globally renowned Wembley Stadium.
