The Police’s Sting and Andy Summers reunite on new song with Christian McBride

The Police duo Sting and Andy Summers have reunited to collaborate on Christian McBride’s new single, ‘Murder By Numbers’. The song is a cover of the legendary rock band’s 1982 hit.

The new release, which is set to appear on McBride’s forthcoming album, Without Further Ado, Vol. 1, marks the first time that Sting and Summers have paired up since they reunited with The Police for a farewell tour between 2007 and 2008.

McBride, who has won nine Grammy Awards throughout his illustrious career, is elated to have brought the pair together on the same song, remarking, “I am absolutely thrilled to have Sting and Andy Summers — two-thirds of one of the most influential bands in history, The Police — join me for one of their songs.”

The jazz musician continued: “Sting continues to evolve gracefully as an artist, and Andy still plays with the sophisticated fire and grit he has always possessed. A huge thank you to both of them, as well as to the remarkable Pedrito Martinez, for bringing that special ‘thang’ that only he can provide.”

Without Further Ado, Vol. 1 is set to be released on August 29th through Mack Avenue Records and will be previewed earlier that month at the Newport Jazz Festival.

Meanwhile, Sting is currently on the road across Europe with Sting 3.0. Last week, during a show in Germany, he honoured the late Brian Wilson by covering The Beach Boys’ ‘God Only Knows’ and telling those in attendance, “Today, one of my heroes died; Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys. He’s gone to heaven, so I’m gonna sing a song that I love.”

Although Sting and Summers have joined forces for ‘Murder By Numbers’, another reunion with The Police is off the table. During an interview with Music Week in 2023, Sting explained his stance on reunions, stating, “You should do it once, and the timing should be right.”

He elaborated: “When the Police reunited, it had been long enough, and it was the right time to do it. And I’m taking credit for that because that was my decision. Doing it again would just be gratuitous and that won’t happen. But we did it, and everyone was happy that mum and dad got back together again and had one last fling.”
