Jason Reitman has been announced as the director for the new Ghostbusters sequel.

The new Ghostbusters film will be a continuation of the iconic original 1984 film which famously starred the likes of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and Ernie Hudson. Despite the excitement, there has been no confirmation that any of the aforementioned names will reappear.

The inclusion of Reitman sees the film go full circle, the director appeared in the original film as a child actor: “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman told the Hollywood Reporter. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

There has been no word on any plot details as of yet but Reitman has clear vision: This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet,” he said.

The film is being rebooted by Sony and production will begin in the summer.
