The Libertines play new songs from upcoming album at intimate gig

In anticipation of their fourth album, All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, The Libertines played some brand new songs from the record at an intimate gig in Margate.

The gigs took place over the weekend (December 9th and 10th), with the band, who formed in 1997, welcoming eager fans to Lido Cliff Bar. At the venue, The Libertines performed multiple never-before-played songs from their long-awaited new album, which is set for release on March 8th.

These new tracks included ‘Man With The Melody’, ‘Merry Old England’ and ‘Have A Friend’. Additionally, the band played their latest singles, such as ‘Night of the Hunter’ and ‘Run Run Run’.

However, fans could also enjoy the band’s most popular hits. They made time for set staples such as ‘What Katie Did’, ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’, ‘Up the Bracket’ and ‘Don’t Look Back Into The Sun’, with the latter closing the night.

Alongside the Margate gigs, with each performance featuring a crowd of just 500 fans, The Libertines will soon be embarking on a tour of equally small venues at the start of 2024.

The intimate tour begins on January 23rd before wrapping up on February 16th and includes clubs such as Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach, Leeds’ Wardrobe and Southampton’s Engine Rooms.

Discussing their upcoming tour of some of the country’s smallest venues, the band shared that they are “excited to be going back to our roots in these small sweaty clubs, where we can see the whites of the crowds eyes.”
