The Last Dinner Party reveal advice from Courtney Love

The Last Dinner Party have revealed the advice they were given by Hole vocalist Courtney Love regarding their debut single ‘Nothing Matters’.

The London group released the track last year, but needed to remove an expletive from the chorus to make it suitable for radio. Thankfully, Love stepped in to provide The Last Dinner Party with inspiration for the censored version upon meeting the band at a festival.

In a new interview with Music Week, singer Abigail Morris explained: “We met her at The Great Escape and at the time we were in agony over what on earth we were going to use instead of (fuck) because that’s the whole point.”

“After the show she stormed up the dressing room stairs saying, ‘I’ve got it!’ She had an empty packet of painkillers and she’d scrawled ‘punch’ on there. She was kinda pitching to us. We were like, ‘Yeah, thanks!’ We appreciated her passion,” Morris added.

Although the band eventually opted to use “have” rather than “punch” in the clean version of ‘Nothing Matters’, they were still grateful for Love’s advice.

Morris also discussed how Florence + The Machine has been helpful, stating: “Florence Welch was someone we spoke to who really made an impact on us. She has an almost identical story to us. She got signed at the same age we did, to the same label and has a similar approach to art and music in the sense of world building and storytelling.”

“She was just so wise and kind and generous. She’s someone that we really look up to and she’s a really wonderful person to have on our side,” she added.

The Last Dinner Party are set to share their debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy, on February 2nd. In addition to winning the BBC’s ‘Sound of 2024’ poll, the group have also been named by the Brit Awards as the recipients of their 2024 ‘Rising Star’ statuette.

In a four-star review of their latest single ‘Caesar On A TV Screen’, Far Out wrote: “Finally unleashing the literary theatricality and high art vision that has been on clear display during their live shows, the band have truly arrived and have a firm grasp on the crown and throne they deserve.”
