The Duffer Brothers reveal topic for upcoming ‘Stranger Things’ spin-off

The Duffer Brothers have officially confirmed that there will be a Stranger Things spin-off, and have confirmed exactly what it will centre on.

On December 31st, 2025, the beloved sci-fi show was brought to an end with an episode over two hours long. The finale, titled ‘The Rightside Up’, tied the series in a bow, a decade after it first went into production.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in light of the momentous occasion, co-creators and brothers Matt and Ross Duffer were asked about how the franchise might continue outside of the Stranger Things banner.

In response, Matt referenced the storyline of the villain, Vecna, who is also Henry Creel, the first child with powers at Hawkins Lab. Actor Jamie Campbell Bower takes on the role.

In season five, viewers have unprecedented access to his memories, including one traumatic memory which sees him in child form, opening a briefcase clutched by a scientist, who he finds cowering in a cave. After the scientist shoots young Henry, he is forced to kill him. In his briefcase finds a bizarre stone which seems to contain an evil force, which enters his mind.

In response to the series’ future, Matt shared, “There are lingering questions about the rock and where the rock came from and the scientist and all of that. “

He added, “Because we had said that there is something in the finale that is going to connect to the spinoff. The spinoff is not about rocks or mining the rocks, but I would say that’s the loose end that’s not that’s not tied up that will be tied up.”

Matt went on to elaborate, “But ultimately, and we have said this before, but I guess to reiterate, it is an entirely new mythology. This spinoff does connect and will answer some of the lingering questions.”

Ross also agreed that the series intentionally left Henry’s storyline “open-ended as to whether he was manipulated or not.”

However, the pair stressed that the spin-off will not specifically be about “the Mind Flayer or the Upside Down.” The brothers have shared before that they “this is really the end of the story […] and Hawkins specifically.”

They reiterated that sentiment in the new interview, insisting, “It feels like with this final season, we finished saying everything we wanted to say about these characters, this story and the Upside Down.”
