Duffer Brothers rule out ‘Stranger Things’ reboot

The final series of the beloved Netflix show Stranger Things is on its way, but fans have already questioned if the show could take on new life after the so-called ending. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have finally answered the query.

When speaking with SFX for the Stranger Things cover feature, the duo were asked if we can expect to see more of Hawkins in the future. They responded, as per What’s On Netflix: “This really is the end of the story of Eleven and Mike and Lucas and Dustin and Steve and all these characters, and Hawkins specifically.”

It was a sentiment echoed throughout other interviews in the new feature, particularly by Caleb McLaughlin, who plays school kid Lucas. He shared, “I wanted to ensure I delivered Lucas’s character authentically, especially since this is the last season.”

Speaking of the considerable time since the series began in 2016, McLaughling reflected, “We’re adults now. We’ve all grown so much, and our characters have darkened over the seasons due to their experiences.”

The first batch of episodes for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things will arrive on November 27th. Following this, the second half of the season will be released on December 26th, ahead of the finale on January 1st, 2026. This will mark the first release since 2022.

The synopsis for the new season of Stranger Things reads: “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.”

It continues: “As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”
