The Delta 72 and Cat Power musician Gregg Foreman dead at 53
Gregg Foreman, the former frontman of The Delta 72 and Cat Power band member, has died aged 53.
According to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, viewed by Far Out, Foreman was discovered at his home in Los Angeles on April 21st. No cause of death has been disclosed.
Wesley Eisold, who performs as Cold Cave, responded to the sad news of Foreman’s death on Instagram on April 21st, sharing, “I guess the word is out. First met Gregg in the year 2000 and reconnected when I moved to LA. He introduced me to Amy shortly after and the rest is history.”
Eisold continued, “Like others, he bounced in and out of our lives and changed each one he visited. For better or for worse, he lived a life that others only claim to have lived and he was one of one. His love for music was as genuine as the pain he harbored. Wishing you peace Gregg, for all of eternity, heavenly sounds and cosmic rhythms.”
More tributes have since poured in from those who knew Foreman, including The Sopranos star Michael Imperioli, who wrote on Instagram, “Very very sad to hear that the great GREGG FOREMAN has passed away. Gregg was a fantastic musician, and a deeply soulful artist.”
The actor continued, “I was fortunate enough to be with him on Lydia Lunch’s Verbal Burlesque crew….and his humility, sincerity and kindness made a big impression on me. Much love to his family, friends and collaborators.”
Matador Records, which was formerly the home of Cat Power, also honoured Foreman, writing on X, “Deepest condolences to all friends, family and bandmates of Gregg Foreman.”
Foreman, who was born in Philadelphia in 1972, made his name in the 1990s as the frontman of The Delta 72, who released three albums before splitting up in 2001.
Then, Foreman started working alongside Cat Power, forming a creative partnership that lasted more than 20 years. Additionally, he played on The Stooges’ James Williamson’s 2015 album, Re-Licked, which also included collaborations with revered names such as Alison Mossheart and Bobby Gillespie.
As a keyboardist, he also had two spells as a touring member of The Gossip during the 2010s, as well as collaborating with Suicide’s Alan Vega and Kat Von D.
