Mark Lanegan and Cold Cave share a cover of Joy Division’s ‘Isolation’

To mark 40 years since the untimely death of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis, Mark Lanegan and Cold Cave shared a tribute to him by covering ‘Isolation’.

The cover was part of United We Stream’s ‘Moving Through The Silence’ stream which was in aid of mental health charity Mind Manchester and featured Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris from Joy Division/New Order remembering Ian Curtis.

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers also spoke about how Joy Division influenced his work, performances from the likes of Lonelady, Elbow, Kodaline as well as Mark Lanegan and Cold Cave joining forces to take on ‘Isolation’.

The song, which was originally released in 1980 as part of Joy Division’s second and final album Closer, sees Curtis deliver his typically poetic lyrics around their now-iconic electronic drum beat.

It is still possible to donate to Manchester Mind and help their cause.

For now though, Cold Cave and Lanegan perform ‘Isolation’ below.

In other Lanegan-related news, the musician recently publically offered out Liam Gallagher in a bare-knuckle after he claimed in his memoir that the former Oasis man once quit a US tour to avoid a scheduled fight with Lanegan.

Backstage tensions had apparently grown out of control by the time Lanegan offered the Mancunian a fair fight in Miami when their paths were destined to cross again. “I detested bullies and refused to put up with them. Liam Gallagher was an obvious poser, a playground bully. Like all bullies, he was also a total p***y.

“He had quit and bailed before I could have a go at him before his promised playground battle royale in Miami. Typical, I thought. That phoney motherf***er had p***ed his pants and gone home to mama before I had a chance to blow this whole thing up myself.”

Gallagher then responded to this claim with a flurry of tweets aimed at the former Queens Of The Stone Age man yesterday, stating: “Mark lannegn(sic) here’s how I saw it I asked you your bands name I was fucking around and called it something else you being an upiight(sic) junkie and not having a sense of humour got your little grungy knickers in a twist another bullshitter trying to sell a book LG x”
