The Cure kick off UK tour in Cardiff: Here’s everything they played
After getting their summer off to a sizzling start in Spain, The Cure are now back in the UK for their first headline tour in their native country in four years.
Earlier this month, The Cure attracted a huge crowd for their headline performance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona ahead of further dates in Portugal, Austria, the Netherlands, and Italy.
Then, they wheeled out the hits at Isle of Wight Festival on June 21st, before arriving on the mainland to get their headline dates off to a start at Blackweir Fields in Cardiff last night (June 24th).
While their festival sets have been largely similar, including opening with ‘Alone’ at each show, they showed in Cardiff from the start by playing ‘Plainsong’ first that they would be approaching their UK headlines differently from a festival gig.
Although at their last two concerts they played fan favourites such as ‘Pictures of You’, ‘Just Like Heaven, ‘A NIght Like This’, ‘A Forest’, ‘The Lovecats’, ‘Friday I’m In Love’, ‘Close To Me’, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, ‘Lovesong’, and ‘Burn’, the Cardiff crowd were treated to a handful that they excluded at the Isle of Wight.
In addition to ‘Plainsong’, these include ‘Disintegration’, ‘Secrets’, ‘Want In Your House’, ‘Prayers For Rain’, ‘Treasure’ and ‘Hot Hot Hot!!!’.
With this being The Cure, who have a reputation for switching things up in the live environment, it’s unlikely that their Cardiff setlist, which is available to view in full below, will remain the same throughout their future UK shows this summer. Nevertheless, it’s a strong indicator of what to expect at these concerts.
Still to come for The Cure is a trip to Ireland this week for Marlay Park in Dublin on June 26th, followed by Belsonic in Belfast on June 28th. Then, they will play at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester on August 21st and the Edinburgh Summer Sessions on August 23rd.
In between those two batches of shows, The Cure will also headline more festivals across Europe, with notable dates including Way Out West in Sweden, Rock En Seine in France, Rock Werchter in Belgium, Roskilde in Denmark, Øya Festival in Norway, and Open’er in Poland.
