The writer David Bowie never got over: “That guy messed me up”
Messed him up.

William S Burroughs was an American writer, essayist and visual artist whose experimental fiction and uncompromising exploration of addiction, sexuality and social control made him one of the most influential literary figures of the 20th century.
A central member of the Beat Generation alongside Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, Burroughs revolutionised modern literature through works such as ‘Naked Lunch’, ‘Junky’, ‘Nova Express’ and ‘The Soft Machine’. His pioneering use of the cut-up technique, developed with artist Brion Gysin, challenged conventional narrative structure and had a profound impact beyond literature, influencing musicians, filmmakers and artists including David Bowie, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Kurt Cobain and Genesis P-Orridge.
A nod to his style and impact.
