The Fall were an English post-punk band formed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, in 1976 by vocalist, songwriter and sole constant member Mark E Smith. Over a career spanning more than four decades, the band became one of Britain’s most influential and uncompromising alternative acts, renowned for their prolific output, abrasive sound and Smith’s distinctive spoken-word vocal delivery. Drawing from post-punk, garage rock, krautrock and experimental music, the Fall released more than 30 studio albums, including acclaimed records such as ‘Hex Enduction Hour’, ‘This Nation’s Saving Grace’ and ‘The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall’. Despite constant line-up changes, the band’s fiercely independent approach and singular artistic vision made them one of the defining groups of the British underground.
