Hear Me Out: Grunge never actually existed
It’s time to admit the truth.

Soundgarden were an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984 and are widely regarded as one of the pioneers of grunge. Founded by singer Chris Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Hiro Yamamoto, the band combined heavy metal, psychedelic rock and alternative rock with complex song structures and Cornell’s extraordinary vocal range.
Alongside Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, Soundgarden helped bring the Seattle music scene to global prominence during the early 1990s. Albums such as ‘Badmotorfinger’ and ‘Superunknown’ produced enduring hits including ‘Black Hole Sun’, ‘Spoonman’ and ‘Fell on Black Days’. Following several reunions and line-up changes, the band came to an end after Cornell’s death in 2017, leaving behind one of rock’s most influential catalogues.
