Ronnie James Dio was born to Patrick and Anna Padavona in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, before being raised in Cortland, New York. His parents encouraged his early musical education, and he initially trained as a trumpet player before becoming a singer. Dio married his longtime manager Wendy Dio in 1978, and although they later separated, they remained close professionally until his death. He had one adopted son, Dan Padavona.
