Michael Hutchence was born in Sydney, Australia, to Kelland Hutchence and Patricia Glassop. He spent part of his childhood in Hong Kong before returning to Sydney, where he co-founded INXS with brothers Andrew, Jon and Tim Farriss, Garry Gary Beers and Kirk Pengilly. He had one daughter, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence Geldof, with television presenter Paula Yates.

Michael Hutchence co-wrote many of INXS's biggest hits with keyboardist Andrew Farriss, creating one of rock's most successful songwriting partnerships. ### Following a violent assault in Copenhagen in 1992, Hutchence permanently lost much of his sense of smell and taste, an injury that friends said contributed to periods of depression. ### His life and career were explored in the acclaimed 2019 documentary 'Mystify: Michael Hutchence', which featured narration through his own recordings and personal archives.
