Kirk Douglas was born Issur Danielovitch in Amsterdam, New York, to Jewish immigrants Herschel Danielovitch and Bryna Sanglel. Douglas married actor Diana Dill in 1943, and the couple had two sons, Michael and Joel, before divorcing in 1951. In 1954, he married producer and philanthropist Anne Buydens, with whom he had two more sons, Peter and Eric. They remained married for more than 65 years until Douglas's death in 2020.
