More About Indie Pop

Indie pop is a genre of alternative music that combines melodic songwriting and accessible pop structures with the independent ethos and aesthetics of indie music, often featuring jangly guitars, understated production and introspective lyrics.
Early indie pop was shaped by artists including Orange Juice, the Pastels, the Smiths, the Field Mice, Beat Happening and Talulah Gosh, whose music emerged from the UK and US independent scenes during the 1980s.
Indie pop generally emphasises melody, catchy hooks and lighter arrangements, while indie rock often adopts a louder, guitar-driven or more experimental approach. Both genres share roots in independent music culture, but differ in sound and stylistic emphasis.
