Coin split following accusations against two band members

American indie pop band Coin have parted ways following unspecified allegations were made against two band members.

Frontman Chase Lawrence announced their disbandment on social media. He shared, “I have recently become aware of revelations around my bandmates and want to share some thoughts directly with all of you. I believe in accountability and doing what’s right. Three months ago, I made the decision to move forward without my drummer, and yesterday, I parted ways with my guitarist.”

Lawrence continued: “Their behaviours directly conflict with my values, and I am devastated for anyone who has been affected by these actions.”

The frontman then said his mission for Coin has always been centred around “creating a space for love and joy music”, which he claimed has now been “compromised by the actions of others”. Lawrence added: “Unfortunately, these developments have led me to the decision that Coin can no longer continue as a band.”

He also apologised to their fans “for the disappointment this may bring”, but said that he owed it to them “to be honest and decisive in addressing this situation”.

Due to Coin’s split, their tour, which was set to begin in Denver on February 2nd, has now been cancelled. The band were set to play notable venues on the run including the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and Oakland’s Fox Theatre. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.

Lawrence concluded his message by saying, “There’s a lot to figure out about the future, but I know I’m not done making music yet. Thank you for everything. With love, Chase.”

At this stage, the allegations made against guitarist Joe Memmel and drummer Ryan Winnen have not been revealed. The duo have also not addressed their departures.

The group, who formed in Nashville in 2012 and have more than two million monthly Spotify listeners, released five albums during their tenure. Their most recent LP, I’m Not Afraid of Music Anymore, arrived in 2024.
