Alex Lifeson is a Canadian musician, songwriter and producer best known as the co-founder and guitarist of the progressive rock band Rush.

Renowned for his technical precision, inventive use of textures and effects, and ability to blend hard rock with progressive rock, Lifeson helped shape one of the most influential bands in rock history. Since Rush’s formation in 1968, he contributed to landmark albums including ‘2112’, ‘A Farewell to Kings’, ‘Moving Pictures’ and ‘Permanent Waves’, writing many of the band’s most celebrated guitar parts.

Following Rush’s retirement after drummer Neil Peart’s death in 2020, Lifeson has remained active through collaborative projects, including the band Envy of None. He is widely regarded as one of rock’s greatest and most innovative guitarists.
