‘Loveless’: How My Bloody Valentine made a massively expensive masterpiece
Finances versus art.

My Bloody Valentine are an Irish-English rock band formed in Dublin in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist Kevin Shields and drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig.
Widely regarded as the pioneers of shoegaze, the band developed a groundbreaking sound characterised by swirling guitar textures, unconventional tunings, layered vocals and immersive production techniques. After early releases rooted in indie rock and post-punk, My Bloody Valentine redefined alternative music with the landmark albums ‘Isn’t Anything’ and ‘Loveless’, the latter now considered one of the greatest and most influential albums of all time.
Following a prolonged hiatus, the band returned with the acclaimed album ‘m b v’ in 2013, further cementing their reputation as one of the most innovative and influential groups in modern rock.
