Sydney Sweeney lined up for ‘Gundam’ movie
Sydney Sweeney has been lined up to star in the Gundam movie which is currently in the works from production house Legendary.
The film will be an adaptation of the Japanese military TV franchise of the same name, which writer Yoshiyuki Tomino launched in the 1970s. Due to various animated movie adaptations, it became a household hit in the 1980s.
Now, Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks are plotting a live-action film reboot, with Sweeney reportedly in final talks to star in a leading role, according to The InSneider.
The original series of Gundam was set in a dystopian future called the Universal Century, in which human armies living in space battled for independence from the Earth through massive robots named Mobile Suits.
Despite plans for the new film being announced in 2021, no plot, character, or release details have yet been confirmed.
At the time of its announcement, Jordan Vogt-Roberts was set to direct, however, this role has now been taken over by Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle, who will also write and produce the movie alongside Linda Moran.
For Sweeney’s part, her reported role comes amid a slew of current projects across the film and TV realm, where she comes off the back of big screen appearances in Madame Web and Ron Howard’s Eden.
The actor is also preparing to star alongside Julianne Moore in Echo Valley, Amanda Seyfried in The Housemaid, and Colman Domingo in Scandalous.
She will also return to her most famous role as the character Cassie Howard in the HBO smash hit coming-of-age drama Euphoria, in which Sweeney will appear in a third season alongside Hollywood castmates Zendaya and Jacob Elordi.
