Illness forces Stevie Nicks to cancel show at last minute

Fans of 1970s pop, ethereal voices and bohemian dresses were left disappointed this weekend after Stevie Nicks cancelled her scheduled appearance at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania only moments before doors were set to open.

The show was tacked on to Nicks’ extensive North American tour back in February, along with 11 other concerts that are – at the time of writing – still expected to take place. Nicks began the tour in Atlanta on February 10th, and is set to be on the road until mid-July, with a handful of dates scheduled for the United Kingdom, Ireland and mainland Europe.

As you can imagine, the excitement over the Fleetwood Mac vocalist and her legendary live performance quickly turned sour in Pennsylvania, as Nicks cancelled the show at 17:30, as fans were waiting to enter the stadium. To add insult to injury, the reasons for the cancellation were vague.

The show’s cancellation was originally announced by the stadium itself at the same time that doors were scheduled to open. Posting to social media, the venue wrote, “Regrettably, due to illness in the band, tonight’s performance is being postponed. Please hold on to your tickets. A new date will be announced soon”. This statement was later reshared by Nicks on social media.

Cancelling the show at the last minute left many fans in the lurch, having made travel and accommodation arrangements, presumably at great expense. It is unclear, at the moment, when the new date for Pennsylvania will be announced, especially given the vocalist’s packed schedule over the summer.

Nicks only has two more scheduled appearances on the North American part of her world tour. Tomorrow, she is due to perform at the Van Andel Arena in Michigan, followed by a set in Chicago later this week. As of now, these concerts are still going ahead despite the illness that forced the Hershey show to be postponed, so fans should get the chance to hear their favourite Nicks tunes live.

With Nicks set to jet off to Europe in early July, it does not leave a lot of time for the Hersheypark Stadium show to be rescheduled. As such, many have speculated that the gig won’t happen until later in the summer after the Fleetwood Mac singer has returned from the European leg of her tour.
