Stephen King claims the Jeffrey Epstein files don’t exist
Author Stephen King is facing a backlash on social media after claiming that the Jeffrey Epstein files don’t exist.
The Epstein files have attracted controversy in recent days after Donald Trump’s US government and the FBI announced last week that no such classified documents exist, despite the president claiming that he would release them during his election campaign last year.
Now, King has waded into the debate by writing to his 6.8 million followers on X, “The Epstein client list is real. So is the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus.”
His controversial post has, as of writing, been seen over 28 million times since it was shared on the author’s account. It has also received several thousand quote tweets who were attacking King for his position on the subject.
Following the backlash, King poked fun at those who had been criticising him on the social media platform, writing in an additional post, “Boy, I hit a nerve with that Epstein post. (laughing crying emoji). The ‘list’ is like UFOs: Everyone knows someone who’s seen one. (laughing crying emoji).”
King has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration over the past decade. Upon returning to X after a several-month hiatus earlier this year, he wrote in his comeback post, “Just wanted to say that Trump is a traitorous, Putin-loving dipshit! Goes double for Elon!”
The author also commented when Musk accused Trump of being mentioned in the Epstein files, which the Tesla owner claimed was the reason they’ve not been released, writing on X, “Couple of billionaires having a hissy little catfight. Who gives a shit? The world actually has problems.”
Meanwhile, Kevin Spacey has demanded the release of the Epstein files. Last year, Spacey was featured in unsealed court documents related to Epstein’s crimes, and now, he wants the files to be released to clear his name.
“Release the Epstein files. All of them,” Spacey wrote on X on July 15th. He continued: “For those of us with nothing to fear, the truth can’t come soon enough,” before adding, “I hate to make this about me — but the media already has,” hitting back at speculation that he could be involved in the case on a more serious level.”
