St. Vincent puts a funky new spin on Beck’s ‘Uneventful Days’
Here’s the weekend, and to celebrate, we’ve made St. Vincent’s funky new remix on Beck’s Hyperspace cut, Saturday’s Track of the Day.
St. Vincent, AKA Annie Clark, has taken on the track from Beck’s 2019 album and with the help of her expert musicianship (and some of his) she delivers a quite sumptuous rendition equipped with all the dancefloor dynamism you’d hope for.
She said in a press release: “I remixed Beck’s new song, “Uneventful Days!” I guess I was listening to a lot of ’70s Herbie and WAR at the time and wondering how much funk was inside me, too.”
Clark plays the guitar, bass and keys on the track but she suggested that some final tweaks were still made by the song’s original creator. “I sent it to Beck and he dug it, but he said “it should be 3 bpm faster.” And what do you know? HE WAS SO RIGHT. It made all the difference in the groove.
The two artists have been in cahoots of late, not only with the remix, but the pair joined Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic for a Nirvana reunion that also featured Grohl’s daughter Violet.
To top it all off, the pair will be part of an all-star cast who will pay tribute to Prince at a special show alongside Foo Fighters, Mavis Staples, and Usher with Sheila E.’s band.
