Spinal Tap and Elton John team up on new version of ‘Stonehenge’
Spinal Tap and Elton John have shared the new version of the fictional band’s classic track, ‘Stonehenge’, taken from the soundtrack of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
The full soundtrack has also been confirmed, which, in addition to featuring ‘The Rocketman’, boasts ‘Cups and Cakes’ featuring Paul McCartney, as well as ‘Big Bottom’ with country juggernauts Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.
The long-awaited sequel reunites Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer with director Rob Reiner, more than four decades after the original Spinal Tap movie arrived on screens in 1984.
The synopsis for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues reads: “SPINAL TAP is back! After a 15-year hiatus, David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls are drawn back together for one last concert. Documentary filmmaker Marty DiBergi returns to explore what the band members have been up to and immortalize the concert reunion.”
It continues: “The film blends the same musical mayhem and satire that made the original a cult classic and features some fantastic rock cameos in the process. Will this concert be their triumphant return, or just another Stonehenge-sized catastrophe?”
Ahead of its release in cinemas on September 12th, the first trailer was released last week, and now, the new version of ‘Stonehenge’ finds Elton fitting like a glove into the role as Spinal Tap’s honorary fourth member.
The full soundtrack is set to be released through Interscope Records on September 12th, the same day Spinal Tap II: The End Continues enters cinemas.
Teasing the film in 2023, director Reiner said: “Recently spoke to Marty DiBergi, who said that he was more than happy to take a sabbatical from his position as a visiting Professor’s Assistant at the Ed Wood School of Cinematic Arts to once again document Spinal Tap to ensure their place in the pantheon of Rock and Roll.”
