Watch Elton John and Paul McCartney appear in trailer for ‘Spinal Tap II: The End Continues’
The new trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has been released. It shows the fictional band returning after a 15-year hiatus and boasts cameos from music legends such as Elton John and Paul McCartney.
The film shows David St Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls return for a final concert, which the fictional documentary filmmaker Marty DiBergi, played by the movie’s actual director, Rob Reiner, has captured once more. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer all return for the new movie as the Spinal Tap trio.
Since the 1984 movie, Reiner has notably gone on to produce the Academy Award-nominated movie, A Few Good Men, in addition to classics like The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally.
The synopsis tells that the movie “blends the same musical mayhem and satire that made the original a cult classic and features some fantastic rock cameos in the process. Will this concert be their triumphant return, or just another Stonehenge-sized catastrophe?”
In the upcoming movie, the band are set to play one reunion show after an evening with Stormy Daniels was cancelled, allowing a space at a huge arena to open up. Since their heyday, the band members appear to have assimilated back into everyday life, one working as a cheesemonger and playing music only at a tiny local pub.
Short of a drummer after the last one “sneezed himself into oblivion,” the band grapple with what it means to return to the spotlight, alongside a music agent who asks if one or two of them might consider dying during the show to cement their legacy.
Since its release over four decades ago to lacklustre reviews, the original movie has since become a cult classic. It has even been enshrined in the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Though there is much to celebrate, the beloved mockumentary universe suffered a recent blow after David Kaff, who played keyboardist Viv Savage, sadly passed away on July 11th at the age of 79.
Bleecker Street, the company behind films such as Captain Fantastic, Logan Lucky, and Hard Truths, has acquired the US distribution rights.
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is set for release on September 12th, 2025.
